So I bought my wife the Roomba scheduler for Christmas. I knew it would make a good gift if it worked becuase she leaves the vaccum out in our living room for when there is a mess. Mainly she does this because our kids make lots of messes. Roomba has a 30 day money back guarentee so I figured we would try it and see how well it worked. My biggest concern was how good a vaccum was it and would it get stuck and not get the job done. Much to our surprise it was a decent vaccum and did a pretty good job covering a whole room. If you have the Roomba focus on a certian room at a time it works much better then if you just let it roam your house vacuuming. It comes with two virtual walls that you can use to keep it confined to a room. I was able to have it vaccum our living room and dining room and all three bedrooms on one charge. I let it finish in the room where it's charging base was so when the batter got depleted it would go back to it's base and charge. The concept of the Roomba is quite nice, we schedule it to vaccum a room when we leave or put in a room and let it do it's thing. It turned out to be quite a handy device that I am quite impressed with. My wife also loves it because she can just pick up a room and let the Roomba do the vacuuming then move on to the next room. So it actually cuts a significant chunk out of her cleaning process.
My prediction is that these devices will add more artificial intelligence and become more efficient vacuums. The artificial intelligence and speech driven features could be quite nice in the future. The biggest edition would be in the memory of the Roomba. If the Roomba could remember your house's layout and always vacuum in the most efficient path it would be a huge step forward.
We too purchased the schedular for Christmas. We have christened her "Rosie". I know it isn't original, but cute nonetheless. Check out my blog and you can read of her antics and suicide attempt.
